Training has always been the foundation of the Leave No Trace program.

With one team traveling the West coast, one team traveling the East, and the Senior Team, our Traveling Trainers are able to bring that training directly to you. The teams visit outdoor retail stores, National Parks and Forests, elementary/middle/high schools, colleges and universities, and festivals like National Public Lands Day. Ideally, training takes place outdoors where participants are able to learn about Leave No Trace hands-on. Our teams are able to provide several types of outreach and custom tailor their presentations to the unique needs of each audience.

With the demand for courses specific to particular audiences, we have developed Leave No Trace courses specific to rock-climbing, mountain biking, sea kayaking, as well as for many other types of user groups.

Trainer Courses

Leave No Trace Trainer courses are two-day trainings taught in an outdoor setting. Trainer courses are designed to help you better understand and teach Leave No Trace skills and ethics. Upon successful completion of the Trainer Course participants will receive a Leave No Trace Trainer Certificate. Due to the amount of educational materials and prep for this course there is a $65 per participant fee. The course limit is 12 participants and the minimum number is 5 participants. Participants will also receive a one year Leave No Trace Membership.

Please keep in mind, no two Traveling Trainer Workshops are alike. We carter to the needs of your group. The traveling trainers are able to conduct a number of other unique Leave No Trace programs to meet the needs of a variety of audiences.

For example, we have facilitated a multi-day training for climbing guides, rafting guides, and horse packers, as well as developing programs for land managers on specific issues to their area such as bear awareness, and teaching workshops on environmental education for college students.

Other Training Opportunities

The Traveling Trainers Teams are not alone. There is network of more than 2,500 Leave No Trace Master Educators nationwide. Leave No Trace Masters provide the same type of education programs as the Traveling Trainers. If the teams are unavailable to meet with your group, we can often link you with another Leave No Trace educator or State Advocate.

With our network of trainers and educational resources, Leave No Trace is reaching out to outdoor enthusiasts, students, retailers and environmental groups to spread the message of responsible outdoor recreation. Our goal is to build toward a critical mass of educated users who will make the Seven Principles of Leave No Trace the standard code of conduct on public lands across the nation and ensure that we will all be able to enjoy these beautiful spaces now and in the years to come.
