I grew up on a dead end street in a city. There were woods behind my house. I remember going there before I was in grade school and looking at the tall trees, their canopy kept out the sunlight so that there was little vegetation on the ground. The city came and bulldozed the trees to clear the area for a garbage dump. I now had to go farther to find trees like that.
I am into Leave No Trace because of those trees.
I try to be at as many events to promote the principles of Leave No Trace. You can find me at the State Fair, programs with the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, Earth Day, Winterfest and other events. I am setting up a program at the New York State Museum in Albany. I will travel anywhere in the state to do training. I work with Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, The Boys and Girls Clubs, all summer camps, and have been to surrounding States like Vermont, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and New Mexico to do training and programs. I do programs in schools and even use the trainer course for home schooling to fulfill the requirements for the ecology and conservation element of Social Studies.
I would like to see more Master Educators and Trainers to be active in the State.

Location: Adirondak Loj / Heart Lake Program Center, Lake Placid, NY
Dates:
Intended audience: Trainer courses are designed for educators, guides, agency employees, outdoor professionals and others interested in learning about low-impact skills and ethics. Open to the public.
Cost: $85 (ADK member) $95 (non-member); includes instruction, course materials, meals, and use of group gear.
Description: Participants receive introductory training in Leave No Trace skills and ethics in a condensed two-day format. The Trainer Course assists the student participants in learning more about the seven principles of Leave No Trace and techniques for disseminating these low impact skills. The training includes 16 hours of instruction and overnight camping. As part of the Trainer Course curriculum, participants will also be required to lead a 10-15 minute presentation on one of the Leave No Trace principles. Upon course completion, student participants will be qualified to act as Leave No Trace-recognized Trainers from the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics. Further details will be provided upon registration.
Gear: Clothing and equipment for an overnight backpacking trip; a list will be provided upon registration.
